Founded January 2000 in San Jose, California, OmniSecure was created to address numerous instances of widespread file theft and computer hacking over the Internet. After some very recent high-profile news stories involving the theft of thousands of credit card numbers and sensitive data, the founders of OmniSecure realized that there was a real need to step up security above and beyond what has been available in the past. Enter OmniSecure founders Roland Chu (President & CEO), Mike Hsu (Vice President of Engineering & CTO) and Ching Huang who understood that a lot of internal and external security holes are related to inherent shortcomings of aging operating system technologies. The transition from single user model to the Internet model requires a new security architecture, OmniSecure Distributed Architecture (ODA).

Most B2B site operators believe that lack of security will stop this segment from meeting the lofty revenue projections. These well-documented problems include intellectual property theft, website defacement, credit card fraud, identity fraud and disk space denial of service. IT professionals have not been able to solve most of these problems using existing technologies. Firewalls are designed to filter IP addresses, which contradicts the web model where the intent is to have as many visitors as possible. Operating systems and strong authentication products are tied to the superuser model, which is a well-known security loophole. ODA is a file level protection architecture that does not depend on any of these techniques and is built from the ground up to work within the modern Internet model. OmniSecure develops products based on our patented Virtual Private Disk technology. These implementations depart drastically from traditional designs by decoupling data access rights from the super user model. The OmniSecure Security Suites are designed to combat credit card fraud, identity fraud, disk space denial of service, web defacement, and internal and external data theft on B2B sites and ASP platforms. These products come in client and server versions, and can have physical keys for USB, RF or serial ports for added security. OmniSecure plans to apply this technology to wireless and other handheld devices as the market matures.

E-commerce security is emerging as a mega trend in Internet infrastructure. Significant investments have gone into securing the transaction through SSL and VPN, and authentication through firewalls, strong authentication and biometrics. File protection is the final piece of the e-commerce security puzzle. OmniSecure has first mover advantage in this large emerging market because our products are ready.
